World Rabies Day reminds us of the fact that rabies remains a major concern worldwide. Rabies is a dangerous viral disease, transmitted by the bite of an infected animal. This disease also infects humans and is fatal if not treated after the exposure.
The day is also an annual reminder to pet owners of the importance of having their pets vaccinated against rabies. In addition, it reminds pet importers of their responsibility for the safety of people and animals.
World Rabies Day is held annually on 28 September, the anniversary of the death of Louis Pasteur who, with the help of colleagues, developed the first effective rabies vaccine. The day is coordinated by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control, a non-profit organisation. World Rabies Day was launched in 2007.
Welcome to a seminar, at which this disease will be discussed, on Friday, 27 September 2013, from 9 am to 11.30 am. The seminar will be held at Evira’s head office on the Viikki campus area in Helsinki (Mustialankatu 3). The seminar will be in Finnish. The seminar is free of charge and open to the public. Please register for the seminar no later than 25 September 2013.
